Eagles took on Reading in the first Masters League game of the season at Banbury Road North. With a full squad available, Eagles were looking for a strong start to the season under the captaincy of Caroline Baggs. Reading had a couple of early chances which were thwarted by Evelyn Hargraves but Eagles soon settled in to the game. Some neat passing and intelligent running created a number of goal scoring opportunities but we couldn’t make it count in the first half.
The second half was dominated by Eagles and an early goal settled the home side. The ball started at the halfway line with an accurate pass to Sherene Butler, who played a one-two with Catherine Taylor before releasing the ball to Rebecca Black. Rebecca ran down the right, drew the keeper out of the goal and selflessly passed the ball to Sherene to put the ball into an empty net. Reading were contained in their own half for much of the second half and Eagles put pressure on the oppositions goal. The second goal came after a goal-mouth scramble and it was Emma Forrester who slotted the ball home from close range for a 2-0 win.
Eagle’s next match is away to Basingstoke.
