Tough League Opener for the Girls U16As
01 October 2017
U16 Girls A 1 - 6 Marlow U16 Girls
Oxford Hawks Girls U16A's travelled to Marlow for their first league game of the 2017/18 season.
Marlow started off very strongly and were immediately putting Hawks under pressure but GK, Cora and the defence were able to manage it, keeping the score at 0-0. However Marlow broke the deadlock from a penalty corner.
At 1-0, Hawks were not dettered and they went down the other end of the pitch and were awarded a penalty corner. Row Hearn cooly slotted home from the top of the D making the score 1-1.
Marlow played some lovely passing hockey and scored a further 2 goals in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, Hawks kept on working hard and put pressure on the Marlow defence but it was Marlow who scored a further couple of goals. Man of the match, Jessica Madden-Waite defended really well and made life difficult for the Marlow forwards, as well as going forward very effectively with many skilful ways.
Hawks worked tirelessly until the final whistle which was highlighted by the fact the girls were awarded a penalty corner in the dying couple of minutes of the game. Unfortunately the shot went wide and the score finished 6-1.
