First league win for L4s in Prem 2

30 September 2017, 10:00, Banbury Road North (Top)

Ladies' 4s 5 - 0 Banbury Ladies 2s

The sun was shining and hopes were high as the Ladies' 4s headed out for their first league home fixture of the season.  With 1 point secured the week before they were determined to add to their league points.

Hawks started strong, maintaining possession and putting pressure  on the Banbury side.  The home side bided their time pressing well without diving in.  We were successful at turning over the ball and building from the back and the midfield.  We won an early short corner and opted for a straight strike. A perfectly accurate injection from Dizzy, was cleanly stopped by Catherine and Caz's strike sent the ball straight at goal.  It deflected off the keepers pads and through her legs to give Hawks the lead!

The first half continued with Hawks looking strong.  Becky and Jacs cleared up at the back ensuring the ball was directed to a Hawks stick.  Hawks played with intensity and wore down the smaller Banbury squad with their pace and teamwork.  The next opportunity came via Caz and Catherine switching the ball up to the left-wing.  Dizzy ensuring she was in the right place, picked the ball up and struck at goal, Rebecca was there if needed but it was Dizzy's stick that was the last to touch the ball before it crossed the line.  Hawks 2-0.

Good play ensued with Bernie, Alice, Grace  and Dizzy connecting well on the left.  Alex and Chloe, held the space and distributed well.  Lydia and Caz continued to work hard and create opportunities as they drove forward.  Through continued pressure Rebecca pounced on a loose ball in the D and smashed it into the backboard. 3-0.  The next 8 minutes saw the most prolonged pressure from Hawks but Banbury successfully defended countless short corners and despite the variety Hawks tried the score remained 3-0 as the half time whistle blew.

Sue Clark delivered an insightful team talk encouraging us to continue with the short connecting passes and triangles which were working so well on occasions.  With a team social scheduled for the evening the team were keen to get back out there and ensure the win.

The second half was similar to the first with Hawks having to work a little harder to defend the breaks from Banbury.  We kept our shape well and Chloe, Caz and Holly demonstrated some good triangle work down the right.  We were awarded another short corner and decided to go the tried and tested route.  The Diz, Catherine, Caz routine worked a treat and Caz's perfect connection saw the ball slam the right hand side of the back board without the keeper getting a touch. 4-0.

Both teams tired towards the end of the match but Hawks continued to get the breaks one of which resulted in a lovely reverse stick scoop from Grace into the back of the goal. 5-0 Hawks!

A great result for the Ladies' 4s but we can't get complacent - we're anticipating much tougher fixtures to come.

Thanks to the appointed umpires for a well whistled match.
