Ladies' 7s leading the way in brilliant start to the season

Ladies' 7s 2 - 1 Bicester Ladies' 4s
After a slightly rushed warm up, the Ladies 7s made a great start against Bicester 4s. We had never played together before and it took a while to get used to positions and new names. Despite us having the majority of possession, Bicester managed to make a fast break and squeeze past our defenders to score.
After several motivational team talks at half time, Hawks went into the second half determined to score. And we did! Clare skillfully dodged past several defenders to get our first goal. Izzy also missed out on a goal by an inch when it rebounded off the post and Mel’s goal was disallowed, only strengthening our resolve to score again!
The positive momentum continued and everyone played incredibly well. It wasn’t until the last two minutes though, when Bella hit a brilliant ball to Polly who popped it into the goal to secure our victory!
Bella was voted man of the match and it was thoroughly deserved.
A few other people must be mentioned though. Bea and Elen was both playing their debut women’s matches. They played fantastically and got really stuck in. Kat and Pippa were both playing out of position; Pippa’s hit outs were incredible, always going straight past the defenders to our team. Ellie, Izzy and Mel were super quick inners and were all over the place on the pitch! It was also superb to have three members of the Grainge family playing- that must be a first!
Despite the rain, the 7s played a brilliant game. What a start to the season!
