Two Days and Two Matches for the Ladies 4s

10 September 2017, 13:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 4s 1 - 2 Newbury & Thatcham Ladies' 1s

Another friendly today against Newbury & Thatcham and in a competitive game, both sides came out to win.

We began the first half putting lots of pressure on the opposition and keeping most of the possession. They made occasional breaks into our D but our defenders worked back and slowed their attackers down. Linda made some excellent saves under pressure and cleared the ball out back to the mid field players. We were making good long balls across the pitch. However, the opposition began to put more pressure on us when we were taking free hits, meaning it was harder to make leads and we struggled to get into the D. They managed to intercept the ball and score.

Towards the end of the first half, the ball was played into the D at the goal but the goalkeeper rebounded the ball back. Holly played the ball at the far post to put Hawks on the scoring board. At half time the score was 1-1 but we knew we could win.

The second half began positively as we were spacing out better, making it easier to pass. We moved up the pitch quickly and managed to win ourselves a short corner. Alice injected to Catherine, and Rebecca had a great shot at the top right corner but narrowly missed. As the game progressed, Newbury & Thatcham made a few more breaks into our D and subsequently won themselves another goal giving them a 2-1 lead.

The other team’s efforts to score increased but Amy and Becky made precise and strong clears out of the D and the ball was played well to the forwards. However, we struggled to put the ball in the goal. We were frustrated by the end result because we knew we had a chance of winning. In spite of our loss, we did win more outcomes in the D. Well played everyone!!
