Ladies' 3s played Slough on a very soggy Saturday

09 September 2017, 13:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 3s 2 - 2 Slough Ladies 2s

In torrential rain Slough pushed back and Lizzie was immediately putting them under pressure. Hawks had the majority of possession with lots of play in the D. A bit of loose marking gave Slough a lucky break and despite a great dive by our goalie slough found the back of the net. This was followed by some great pressure from hawks on both the left and the right as well as Katie in the middle with a number of shots on goal narrowly missing their target. This relentless pressure was rewarded by a corner which despite a great strike by Lizzie was saved by slough’s GK.

Slough raised their game with more pressure but hawks reacted quickly and some determined play resulted in another short. This time, we managed to convert it thanks to a team effort in the D.

Finally the rain stopped and hawks demonstrated some strong flowing play with some great runs by Maddie, Jen and Megan. Possession was 50/50 for the next 10 minutes, taking us into half time 1-1.

Hawks started the second half on the back foot with Slough quick to win a short corner, closely followed by another. Luckily we were able to keep the ball out of our goal, with some strong tackles from defenders, Lucy, Clare, Kirsty, Laura and Amy. After this there was lots of end to end play with shots on goal from both Hawks and Slough and some great runs through the middle from our inners Laura, Becca and Lexi. Hawks worked relentlessly, determined to get a goal. A great run from Jen and a pass to Lizzie in the D resulted in a goal for hawks flying into the back of the net. As Hawks became tired there was some messy passing and marking and Slough managed to get through our defence with a strong run and strike in the D that found the goal.

With less than 5 minutes to go, Hawks worked hard displaying some good stamina despite this being the first match of the season. Sadly no more goals for hawks and we finished the match 2-2.

Lizzie picked up MOM for her endless effort and great goal
