The Ladies 1s continued their pre-season campaign with a fast-paced evening encounter against Loughborough Students who play in Conference North. Huge thanks firstly have to go to all the fantastic ball patrollers who came out for the late game and did a great job - having you there really added to the fast pace of the game! The students, featuring Hawks Alumni Lucy Millington, Ella Cusack and Lyndsey Whyte, started very strongly keeping keeper Jess Hughes on her toes. But Jess was on fine form and pulled out some cracking saves to keep the crowd happy. The score stayed 0-0 until a lovely bit of skill from Ella, who drove into the D and then pulled out a stunning reverse stick strike which not even super-Hughes could keep out.

In the second half Hawks settled more into the game and possession was more evenly shared. Chances came and went at both ends, and Hawks almost levelled minutes from the end when Abi Flory won possession in her D, and ran the entire length of the pitch only for her shot to creep agonisingly wide. The Students held out for the win in yet another valuable encounter for the Ladies 1s.
