Today we faced Buckingham 3s away at Stowe school. The first 10 minutes of our game was composed and we kept our cool against a young and fast team. We had some great passing from the full backs through to the inner line but Buckingham's defence was very strong and therefore weren't able to get the ball up to the forward line. Buckingham returned with a strong attack and were awarded a penalty corner. Using a well worked routine, they were able to get the ball past our defence for a goal. Buckingham remained strong and kept up their attack. Rachel made a fantastic run up the right wing and crossed the ball across the back line. Pip, Sherene and Polly were all in the goal mouth waiting but it was a Buckingham defender who deflected the ball into the goal to level the score for half time.
At half time, we talked about the inners and forwards working harder to defend as they were quick when attacking and were able to make fast turnovers. We started the second half with some great passing around the Buckingham players but they were quick on our mistakes. They were awarded another short corner and were successful with another well-rehearsed routine crossing the ball into the far corner. Hawks started strongly again and attacked well, there was a great ball up the pitch from Rachel received in the circle by Sherene who went for a strike but was awarded a short corner for a harsh tackle. Buckingham defended the short and regained control of play to come back strongly with a third goal. The game ended at 3-1 to Buckingham. It was a good match and a good end to the season. Pip, a former light blue, is hoping for a Cambridge women to win their race tomorrow but backs the Dark Blue men.
