Newbury and Thatcham came to Hawks seeking to confirm their promotion and were immediately on the front foot. With Hawks struggling to get a grip on the game a couple of early mistakes at the back were punished. Hawks were quickly 3 down and chasing the game,
Despite sterling work in midfield by Uncle and Nephew Fogden combination supported by Matthew Brooke who has settled well into the side, Newbury were just too strong.
Hawks did manage to secure a small inroad when a short corner struck a Newbury player on the line and the resulting penalty stroke was well taken by Whitey Jnr.
Jon Davies pulled off some excellent saves in goal but after a number of chances he was simply unable to keep Newbury at bay and they added 3 more goals in the second half.
At the end of the game and with a 6-1 win for the visiting team Hawks would regret some unforced errors but acknowledged that on the day the better team won, and we wish them well in their final promotion game.
