It’s getting close to crunch time in the MBBO Division 2 with Hawks 4s sitting pretty in 3rd place, equal on points with second placed Wycombe 2s. It may come down to the last game against Wycombe to see who goes up with likely table toppers Harrow 1s. Three games to go and it’s all to play for. On Saturday we entertained Eastcote and welcomed both Nathan and Boots to our ranks, both of whom we were grateful for, as Laurie and Charlie bolstered the ranks of the 3s, while it was great to see Ollie playing in the 2s. Top goal scorer Luke somehow was also missing, off galavanting on his second skiing trip of the season. Eastcote are mid-table and don’t travel so well, nor did they have Jaz, their eloquent centre forward. The first half was a very even affair, with our controlled play matched by the oppositions pacey counter attacks. Nil all at half time, despite Boots having several short corners stopped on the line and Eastcote nearly scoring from a drag flicked short corner. However, collectively we believed we would overpower Eastcote eventually through strength of numbers as well as our overall dominance of the ball. This proved to be the case and MoM Alex was slightly fortuitous with his deflected first that deceived the keeper, but his second – more of a driving top spin volley – was a touch of class. Rob Manson also bagged a couple, one on the reverse and the second a slipped short corner and he will be disappointed to have spurned a hat-trick slapping the ball wide from the spot when it was harder to miss. In the end a comfortable 4 nil win and an enjoyable game all round.
