L5s improve their finishing but lose to Sonning in 10 goal match

18 March 2017, 16:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 5s 4 - 6 Sonning Ladies 3s

Sonning were quickly off the mark with their first goal scored in just 5 minutes. Hawks continued to be put under pressure in defence, with Phil, Susan, Jane and Alice working hard and making some crucial tackles. A huge well done to goalkeeper Mimi, agreeing to step up from the ladies 7s to 5s, to make her debut aged only 13! Halfway through the first half, Hawks linked up a beautiful set of passes to get the ball to Lydia, who then demonstrated an amazing passage of individual stick skills, ending in a well deserved goal for Hawks. Sonning however fought back strong and scored two more goals in quick succession, leaving the score at 3-1. Sophie and Caitlin worked hard as inners, feeding the ball regularly to the forwards. The ball found its way to Sherene, who made a fantastic run into the D which resulted in Hawks' second goal. Shortly before half time a short corner way awarded to Hawks. This was slotted nicely into the back of the goal by Sherene, assisted by Lottie.

Half time, 3-3.

The second half started and Sonning didn't wait long (under two minutes) to score their 4th goal. Sonning scored yet again to take the score to 5-3. Hawks then received a short corner. Which after a few attempts was flicked into the netting by Buffy, our MOTM. (Buffy's first and possibly last goal of the season!) Unfortunately Sonning then went on the score a further goal, leaving the Full time score at 6-4.

A huge thank you to Rachel and Charlie for giving up their Saturday to umpire for us.
