The 6s match against Sonning did not get off to the best of starts when Jade and Julie forgot to bring the team shirts – luckily Becky had some spare Ladies 2 shirts and we played in white. The match was off to a slow start but quickly picked up with Dette, Georgia and Claire putting the goalkeeper under pressure. Unfortunately, none of these shots where converted as the Sonning Goalkeeper was saving everything we threw at her. Jan, Katie, Annabelle and Megan moped up any break always from Sonning with calm tackles and great strong hits spreading the ball wide. Half time ended frustratingly for Hawks 0-0. Half-time talk and Becky high-lighted we must try and get a strike on goal as soon as we cross the D-line rather than dribbling the ball closer to the goal and Purdy was concerned we would be caught out by a break from Sonning who kept a player high at all times.
The second half we started off strong with Katie and Jade doing some quick passes down the left which found Dette at the base line crossing the ball well but we still couldn’t score. Finally, in the 25th minute of the second half Izzy scored a lovely goal from the edge of the D – better late than never! This was quickly followed by Becca making a lovely run and weaving through players to score a well-deserved second goal. Unfortunately, this was followed by Bella being green-carded and spending 2 minutes on the side line, but Hawks defended well leaving the final score as 2-0 to Hawks.
Due to her brilliant goal and strong runs Izzy was voted MOM. Ladies 6’s now move up to second in the table and with just two more wins required can hopefully secure promotion.
