Buckingham were the visitors to Banbury Road North and started very strong. In the first 10 minutes of the game, Buckingham’s pressure was too much for the Hawks defence and  they managed to score a flick off a short corner. Some mis-traps and sloppy passes allowed Buckingham to stay comfortably in Hawks’ half, creating another short corner for them. A very powerful strike from GB player Zoe Shipperley went squarely on to number 17 Gemma Darrington’s knee, forcing her to sit out for the rest of the match. Despite some great saves by keeper Miriam Pritchard, Buckingham stayed mostly in Hawks’ half and it was only so long until they managed to score a slap and deflection from a short corner.  A drive and a reverse-stick strike from Annabelle Denly narrowly missed the goal, this was unfortunately followed by yet another goal from Buckingham after they passed it around the D and slotted one into the corner. Despite a good shot from Katie Lowe and strong burst and strike from Player of the Match Lucy Stewart, Hawks went into half-time 3-0 down.

Coach Andy Clark refocused the team at half time, although despite his best efforts, Buckingham scored in the first 2 minutes of the second half making the score 4-0. The rest of the half was a lot more positive and Hawks began piling the pressure on Buckingham’s defence, allowing a short corner where Becky Odlin narrowly missed a deflection from a great strike by Caro Harris. Hawks attacked much more, gaining many more circle penetrations. The game became a lot tighter and strong play through the midfield allowed Hawks to keep it down Buckingham’s end for the majority of the half. However, a strong run up the right wing by Buckingham created their final goal. The last few minutes involved equal pressure by both teams with Miriam Pritchard making another great save on a short corner. However, the score remained 5-0 to Buckingham up to the final whistle.
