The girls under 14s made it 5 wins out of 5 in the Home Counties League Division 3 with a good win 5-2 against second place Buckingham. Hawks piled on the pressure from the start and entered the D so often I stopped marking it down in my book, but like Arsenal, we kept trying to walk the ball into the goal rather than shooting early as soon as we crossed the white line of the D. Chances went a-begging, until up popped Mimi on the left wing to finish off a good move to open the scoring. Our issue in the first half was that we piled through the middle, then entered a heavily populated D and struggled to finish with a decent shot. Gemma joined us red-faced half way through the first half, having played in the 2s game on the other pitch, although skipper Susie deputised well at centre half and Annabelle P slotted in the defence seamlessly. Man of the Match Annabelle Asher was having a great game and popped up with two follow ups, showing good anticipation and fortitude. A defensive lapse allowed Buckingham back in the game, but Annabelle completed her hat trick early in the second half, then Gemma got on the scoresheet to take it away from the visiting team. Buckingham got a further consolation and Tiggy was denied at the death, scoring just as the whistle blew for full time. A rousing happy birthday was sung to the coach and Gemma, who’d provided birthday cakes for all, and with Jonny and Lisa also providing goodies, the girls left well-fed!
