Ladies' 7s beaten by Banbury at home
04 March 2017, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 7s 0 - 2 Banbury Ladies 5s
Hawks had a large squad of 16 which included some first timers but also some more experienced players who were able to offer advice and support.
It was apparent from the start that Banbury had a strong side. They had some powerful hitters yet they also managed to pass quickly and confidently.
Maya did a cracking job in goal making some wonderful saves and Deborah, Wendy and Katy had a busy time in defence. Banbury did however manage to score twice in the first half. Hawks had a short corner but we unfortunately were unable to turn it in to a goal.
A half time talk highlighted the lack of confidence from hawks and we were encouraged to pass the ball quicker. Emma, a very experienced player who is returning to hockey after having a baby, spoke to us about needing to use the wings more which would create more space and options for players.
The second half was action packed but sadly still no goals from hawks. There were a few near misses from Polly, Mel and Emma but we couldn't quite finish it off. Jess, Gina and Rachel did a great job pushing the ball up the pitch but Banbury just proved too strong.
We named Charlotte Hanslip man of the match. Although very young, she fought with confidence and played a very professional game.
