Oxford Hawks u16s started their final league game of the season against Surbiton quite brightly but Surbiton showed their intentions from early on and were immediately in the Hawks D putting the defence and GK and man of the match, Core Browne-Clayton under lots of pressure. Cora was on fine form again and kept the score at 0-0.
At the other end of the pitch, a great passing move involing Row Hearn and Poppy Webb resulted in a lovely reverse stick finish in the top left hand corner, scored by Poppy. This only seemed to spur Surbiton on and they ended up scoring 6 goals in the 1st half.
After a very grumpy half time team talk, Hawks went out and showed why they have done so well this season and played the lovely passing, attacking hockey that has got them to Tier 2 of the England Championship. All 15 players worked really hard for each other and did the basics really well. The only goal of the 2nd half was scored by Row and was a great individual effort after picking up the ball outside the 25 and driving past a number of Surbiton defenders before finishing past the keeper.
Massive thanks to Paul Scragg and Linda Billington for umpiring.
