It might have been an early start, but Hawks fielded a strong team against Walllingford 4ths. From the start Hawks pressed high, forcing the Wallingford keeper to make some emphatic saves. Eventually the pressure took its toll on Wallingford who conceded a short which Will Smith duly smashed home. He followed this up with an individual piece of skill, dribbling into the D and neatly slotting it past the keeper to make it 2:0 at half time.
The second half began with Hawks still piling on the pressure but with a long ball sent up to Wallingford’s lonely striker they managed to get a short. Their centre back, who’d had a great game defending, hit the ball hard left of the post which was deflected into the goal by a Hawks player to make it 2:1.
A short right at the end of the match was once again saved by the Wallingford keeper to the right, giving Roger Dunn a chance of a tap-in for glory but unfortunately the chance was not taken.
Final score 2:1. Hawks 7ths will take the win, but it could and should have been more!
