Walking to the pitch from the changing rooms, a still concentration fell over the team; the silence broken by the cry of the grounds man, "get off my grass"!
Following a stealth and focused warm up, led by Ray, we watched the experienced and inspirational match that was in action come to an end. The team then made their way to the corner of the pitch where a mini sprint session was held, ensuring the team were at match pace from the off.
The game started coyly, with both sides probing for the opening goal. Hawks had the majority of possession and won several corners. After the 10th+ corner hadn't gone in, Hawks feared the worst and worried it wouldn't be their day. However, control, patience and some quick counter attacking play saw them open up a 2-0 lead at half time. Jake leading the midfield charge with his high engine work rate, and captain Ed orchestrating his band!
The second half came and despite new tactics on short corners, the goal just wouldn't come.
Tackles were flying in and some felt that penalty strokes and yellow cards could well have been awarded. Never the less, it was Hawks who went down to 10 for someone knocking the ball away after the whistle; an innocent mistake some would say, but a pointless one none the less.
With both teams back to 11 and around 10 minutes left to play, the Hawks half-backs, Craig and Ollie began to push up field and support the attacks. The overloads and quick free hits from Mark in and around the opposition 25, saw 4 quick-fire goals for the visitors - some more deliberate than others (Cameron Saint).
Despite a hat trick avoidance from Tim, Hawks ran out 6-0 winners.
