Oxford Hawks fought hard but eventually could not get the better of a strong Isca side in a good quality match at the University Sports Ground. The well supported Hawk's started slowly and were soon on the back foot as a direct Isca side caused early problems and soon deservedly took the lead. Hawks spent most of the time defending in the first half and Jim Felix combined with Steve Jones and Russ Warner strong defending kept the score at one nil. The only chance of the first half came when Andy Sumser crossed for Dave Hughes to deflect cleverly resulting in good save from the Isca keeper. The rebound fell to Phil Dunnill who forced a short corner. The short corner was cleared and from the break away Isca doubled their lead.
Hawks adjusted the formation at half time and looked more dangerous immediately, Phil Dunnill took advantage of Isca not clearing out of the D and shot powerfully into the corner of the net.. Again the Hawks were caught of the break and Isca added to the lead with a firmly hit rising shot past Jim Felix. A defensive mistake allowed Isca to score a fourth. Hawks were hampered by two head injuries in a many minutes as Richard Venables was hit from a lifted ball and his replacement Dave Hughes hit on the head from a Phil Dunnill shot. Given the fact Andy Clark had limped off with a hamstring injury the Hawks did well to pick themselves up and get back into the game with two more goals from Peter Bennett and Simon Dawson, Time ran out with Isca tiring and the Hawks could not level the game losing narrowly to the slightly better side on the day.
