Hawks welcomed Horsham to BRN still searching for their first win of 2017. The previous week saw the league game v Havant abandoned with Hawks 1-0 up, after a facial injury to the umpire, and the Sunday saw Hawks valiantly go down 3-1 to Brooklands in the national cup after a great performance.
Hawks started the game on the front foot throughout, moving the ball quickly and pressing Horsham deep into their half. The dominance was rewarded with Dan Rhodes opening the scoring after lifting the ball over the keeper on the reverse. Hawks continued to push on and control the game, but lacked precision and quality in the final third to add to the score. Horsham threatened on the break and forced a few short corners which were well saved by Chris Price. HT 1-0.
The second half continued in a very similar fashion, with Hawks in control and Horsham hitting on the break. Hawks wasted several promising opportunities and a few short corners were well saved by the young Horsham GK. Hawks did finally add another goal to make the game safe, with Alex Williams slotting home from close range. It finished 2-0. Chris Price in the Hawks goal made sure of a clean sheet with a good save from the final Horsham short of the game.
A pretty decent performance from Hawks but will want to improve their precision in the final third, with plenty to work on, and to make sure that they don't drift through the remainder of the season.
