Though this was a big disappointment we continued to defend relentlessly through the rest of the half. In general, Hawks had the majority of possession throughout this half and all of the forwards had some good shots on goal. Sadly none of these shots were successful. The midfielders were passing well yet the ball was turned over too often to Wycombe. We conceded no goals on our defensive short corners due to good pressure and precise clears out of the D. By the end of the first half the score was 1-0 to Wycombe but this didn't reflect on our playing.
After a thorough half time talk with coach Tom giving us some wise words, Hawks were ready to be more aggressive and run with the ball when possible. Now that all the forwards were aware how to "make the goal bigger" and take the wide rebounds off the opposition keeper. Our defending sixteens were taken quickly and passed skilfully from Susan to the left. Players posted up for the ball a lot more which improved our possession further. Phil made some brilliant fast passes from the back line to the mids and forwards resulting in her winning the vote for player of the match by a mile! An attacking short corner put onto a Wycombe defender's foot resulted in us getting a penalty flick. Pip was composed under pressure and scored off the flick. The score now was 1-1. During the middle of the second half we lacked the energy from the beginning of the half yet still kept possession. Sherene scored hawks' second goal of the day off another attacking short corner. Another attacking short corner resulted in Pip scoring another great goal off a slip, making the score 3-1 to Hawks! The opposition players were fast so our midfielders and inners worked hard throughout resulting in a very deserved 3-1 win. Well played everyone!!
