The L4s put out a 16-strong squad against an unpredictable university side on Saturday. The Uni dominated the first few minutes of the match with consistent pressure on the Hawks D, which was ably dealt with by the Hawks defence and GK Evelyn.
Hawks took a few minutes to warm up, but were soon able to disrupt Uni's play and start counter attacking. Hawks built from the basics and strung together some solid passes from the defence and midfield, with good leads from the forward line to open up space. Hawks soon began to dominate the game and won a run of short corners, the last of which rewarded Caz and her Plan B with a textbook goal, taking Hawks to 1-0.
From thereon Hawks remained remarkably stable despite rolling subs through almost every position on the pitch. Hawks looked strong and were unlucky not to connect with a couple of great passes into the D fro Rebecca and Diz.
Some good play from the midfield found Laura in space in the D and she found the back of the net with a beautiful strike from open space, taking Hawks to 2-0 at half time.
Hawks were determined to come back from the break with continued pace and energy. The uni had moments of attacking play which was confidently dealt with by the defence, in particular MOTM Becky. Hawks's win was secured early in the second half when some brilliant linking play from the inners resulted in a pass to Rebecca, who finished confidently to take Hawks to 3-0.
