A WIN AT LAST for the mens 6's against a strong Maidenhead

28 January 2017, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Men's 6s 3 - 2 Maidenhead Magicians

Three nil up after 20 minutes, and despite failing a fitness test as he got out of bed that morning, the ex exiled skipper thought that this was going to be a slightly embaressing walkover...

How wrong was he...?!

With the new recruit  Adam promising much before retiring after 2 minutes, the team still looked strong with Gilman, Venables, Spittles jnr and Ash in the middle. Elliott managed to hit a Darby like 6 incher in to start the team off in the first 4 minutes. Nico manufactured a reverse swipe from a metre and Archie put a stroke away to make it 3.

Then, somehow, Maidenhead pulled it together, scored from a short to make it 3-1. At half time, the Chair quite rightly asked for more passion, and the second half became quite tense, especially when Maidenhead somehow scored a goal when the Hawks team just stopped...

Despite far more play in the Maidenhead D, Hawks just couldn't put the game to bed, good performances from Hack looking very assured in his rightful place at the back, and Spittles and Gilman still looked likely to create something, but the main improvement was a sneaky strategic (yes, that does exist at this level..) move to put Venables at left back and Hawks started to create more again....

A good game plyed in good spirit, Maidenhead probably deserved the point, and thanks to Charlie and Geoff for umpiring.

Sadly we didnt see Wellsy attcking in the oppo half, but that was because he had followed team instructions rather more than intended, and got shedded the night before...DoD again to him!

MoM to Spittles jnr.
