Ladies' 3s 2 - 0 Sonning Ladies 2s
After two weeks of frozen pitches the 3s were keen to play some hockey on Saturday, facing Sonning 2s at home.
The 3s were accepting that they might all be a little rusty after a couple of weeks of no matches, so the focus was on getting the simple things right. The rust was definitely clear from the off but even with Sonning’s tight pressing Hawks managed to defend well and mount attacks, coming close a couple of times and missing a short thanks to well made save on the line from a Sonning defender.
0-0 at half time and the discussion was how to cope with the press and focus on playing the ball around. Hawks listened and stepped up, forcing a number of attacks. It wasn't long before one of these resulted in a flick, well put away by Megan M. Sonning looked to press back and some impressive saves from Emma kept the score 1-0. Hawks were still looking for more and a quickly outletted ball from Megan H found Emily D for a counter attack, the ball passed off to Georgia who slotted it past the keeper for Hawks’s second.
With 10 to go Sonning kept attacking sustaining pressure in the Hawks D for extended periods. It was a frantic last period but the team stood solid to take the 2-0 win.
