U14 Girls A team win at Wallingford
08 January 2017
U14 Girls A 5 - 2 Wallingford U14 Girls
The first few minutes of the match were fairly even, with no real opportunities at either end of the pitch, until Emma S, weaving through defenders down the left wing, started the scoring with goals in the 9th and 19th minutes. This was closely followed by Tilly scoring in the 23rd minute, with yet another of her destructive runs through the opposition, as they parted like the Red Sea. The attacking was sustained, for a while after, with Tallulah and Tiggy speeding down both wings, supported by storming runs from Annabelle and good linkage play from Jade. For the rest of the half, both sides had numerous chances in front of goal, however a short corner in Wallingford’s favour was executed perfectly from the top of the D to finish the half at 3-1 to Hawks.
The second half began with Hawks dominating possession, yet allowing Wallingford several unnerving counter attacks; dealt with deftly by Susie and Alice, not to mention Emily making some superb saves in goal. Soon these scares were stamped out, though, when Tilly scored another of her spectacular goals with, not long later, Emma S completing her hatrick, with a wonder goal using her skill to baffle the daunted defenders. Hawks’ control over the match was continued, with Mimi, Olivia and Gemma attacking relentlessly, and Emma K. and Delphi spreading the play from the back, until very near the end, when Wallingford managed to slot in a splendid second goal from another short corner. Nevertheless, in the end it was a decisive victory for Hawks, as they continue further their winning streak this season.
