It was a very chilly January evening that Slough ladies came to Hawks. We knew it was going to be a tough match but we were all keen and very determined.

We started well, with most of the action in our attacking half with good movement between our Mids and Inners, especially Jo, Bella and Annabelle who worked hard pushing the ball up the pitch. Slough’s defence was pretty solid but after some excellent ball skills and a cross from Olivia, Mel took her chance, had a cracking hit and walloped the ball in to the goal! It was a real team effort and it gave us even more motivation to win!

Half time team talk saw some wise words from Deborah, Jo and Wendy. We needed to be more attacking and hungry in the D but also for us to use our width more and take advantage of the space we had.

Second half we went out fighting! Mel scored another great goal but unfortunately just after the whistle blew. Very frustrating!! Slough put our defence to work which saw Deborah, Indya and Wendy under pressure but they fought incredibly and stopped many attempts to get the ball through to the goal. Unfortunately, we were caught off guard and out of position, which saw Slough scoring easily in an open goal. This was very annoying and totally unnecessary. Thus, taking the score board to 1-1.

Shortly after this one of the Slough ladies was sent off with a green card. One too many arguments with the umpire and she got her comeuppance! What drama!!

So, the whistle blew at 1-1 which was frustrating as it didn't really reflect how well Hawks played. We had so many near misses on goal but just couldn't quite finish them off. Annabelle did remarkable work in Mid field and was awarded man of the match and we decided to give their Goal keeper man of the match as she put up such a great fight.
