Hawks came expecting a stiff test but were up for the challenge form the start. With the defence of Dan Evans, Dan Johnson, Charlie Warner and Roger Dunn under pressure they held firm and Jon Davies between the sticks was in excellent form.
A couple of lapses led to a 2-0 deficit at half time but every-one was enjoying a great game played in good spirit.
Hawks were determined to make a mark and so it proved as a break down the right saw OJ and Minner combine before the shot was parries by the goal keeper and Whitey Snr finished from close range.
The joy was short lived however as Newbury immediately broke and restored the 2 goal advantage.
With a former Hawks 1st team player pulling the strings in midfield for Newbury the tiring legs began to leave gaps.
In the end a 6-1 score-line was a bit harsh with 2 late goals but the team performance was a source of great pride. The team look forward to the 2nd half of the season so bring on 2017!
