L3s vs Wallingford 5-2 with four outstanding goals from Minton

26 November 2016, 14:45, Wallingford HC

Ladies' 3s 5 - 2 Wallingford Ladies 1s

Hawks ladies 3s travelled to Wallingford ready for a tough match. After a positive warm up we took to the pitch raring to go. Wallingford put lots of pressure on us from the start, with high intensity play - pushing us into defensive positions for the first ten minutes. Their persistence paid off as they managed to go 1 nil up despite great defensive efforts from our midfielders and defense.

After this Hawks picked up our own pace and the play moved forwards into the D. Some good passing and runs resulted in a short corner and a great goal from Megan M who was in the perfect position on the left post. We equalised!

Wallingford fought back but we kept them away from the goal with our excellent defense which included Nicky, Kim, Clare, Rosie, Megan H and Lucy. The defense found Sienna a number of times who ran the length of the pitch passing a great ball to Captain Lizzie - who showed us what to do with a calm head sinking it into the goal to make it 2-1 to us at half time.

We came out really strong after our half time talk and Emily Dawes was on flying form running down the right hand side to give us a short corner - which sadly we couldn't convert. Wallingford gained another break but our defense was too strong for them.
Some great passing in the midfield by Katie, Laura and Sienna led to us finding a foot in D resulting in another goal for Megan - right in the ugly zone.

Our short corners were now working well and we were increasingly frustrating Wallingford - who had a talking to from the umpires. We soon got back into the flow of play, gaining another short corner, this time Megan found the gap between the keepers feet - giving her a hat-trick.

More great play linking to our higher players - Emily, Lizzie, Lexi and Megan - drew out the Wallingford goalie and Megan managed to slot the ball in the goal for the fourth time! Wallingford were eventually green carded but this seemed to give them the determination to find the back of the net and they scored their second with a lift over our amazing keeper, Emma, who was having a great game.

Full time saw the score at 5 - 2, gaining a well deserved win and a welcome 3 points.

MOM went to Megan for her amazing 4 goals
