Ladies' 1s wished they had won in Wales

19 November 2016, 12:00

Ladies' 1s 1 - 2 Swansea City Ladies 1s

Oxford Hawks made the long journey into Wales but came away empty handed in a game where they certainly could have got something. Hawks started brilliantly and piled pressure on the Swansea goal but were unable to convert. The game then changed as Swansea took the lead after a goalmouth scramble, and soon after doubled their lead with a great piece of skill and good finish down the left. Hawks were stunned but by no means gave up, knowing there was plenty of time left in the game. They created some good attacking moves, with Becky Hibbert and Row Hearn on fine form, but the Swansea defence proved a match for everything thrown at them.

In the second half Hawks continued to push and pulled a goal back with Gemma Darrington scoring from a well worked corner. Swansea had a few corners of their own but Hawks keeper Jess Hughes was on inspirational form with some top class saves. The away side pushed for the equaliser right to the end when Jo Tolson's effort went agonisingly wise. That turned out to be the last action of the game as Swansea hung on to the points.
