In good playing conditions Hawks were up for the game and welcomed new goal keeper Jon Davies. Not long into the game a catalogue of errors led to a scrappy goal for Wallingford.
However it did require a cool head to keep the structure and pressing game but Hawks saw 2 green cards which stoked the flames.
Throughout this period Dan Evans was having an outstanding game, and with Whitey, Charlie an d OJ working hard confidence was high for a win.
In a quite sublime move Whitey was fed by Dan Evans from a forceful drive forward and his firm cross into the opposition D saw OJ Webb deflect the ball into the roof of the net. Outstanding!
What became clear was the need to deliver a move that would make the solid Wallingford defence and goal keeper break their strong line and this did not prove possible.
Wallingford scored on the break and this further galvanised the team with both Ollie and Freddie Honeyman putting the Wallingford defence under immense pressure but the final ball was regularly cleared for a break away.
The unfortunate Dan Evans then secured a nasty injury from a rising ball to the eye socket and despite continued endeavour form the pace of Richard Walsh and David White a goal would just not come.
A convivial post match encounter in the Wallingford club house helped to curb some frustration-but not all!
