Disappointment for L4s at Marlow

05 November 2016, 10:00

Ladies' 4s 1 - 1 Marlow Ladies 3s

An early start on a cold November morning, Hawks rocked up to Marlow full of confidence despite knowing it could be a tricky game.  Marlow won the toss and had first push back, but Hawks managed to keep possession and push up hard resulting in an early well deserved goal from Charlotte 1 - 0.
Throughout the rest of the first half Hawks kept the majority of possession with Catherine making some great tackles in the middle and off loading it out wide to Chloe and Annika.  A few shots on goal came from Caz using her speedy stick skills and Vicky as she dribbled into the “D” had a strike at goal but unfortunately the defender charged it down.  Keeping our shape well, we used the wings well and had some quick breaks, but frustratingly still didn’t manage to find the back of the net!
After an inspirational half-time talk from Catherine and Lisa, we were even more determined to score some goals.  Marlow came out fighting in the second half, they had a few good breaks but Jacqui and Becky were solid in defence and put some great tackles in. Cora made some impressive saves to keep us ahead of a really determined Marlow team.  Frustration grew in the hawks team and a misunderstanding resulted in Annika spending 2 minutes on the side-line following a green card.  However, we still managed to keep our heads and not lose concentration. Maddie, Jen, Rebecca and Caz work well up front and created numerous opportunities for goals but still couldn’t find the back of the net.  Even though Hawks had most of the possession  Marlow somehow managed a very unfortunate last minute goal from a bit of a scramble in the “D”.  1 - 1
The scoreline didn’t reflect our efforts, but we will keep our hopes up for next week’s match!  Laura won MOM for her excellent work as an inner.
