Motivational team talk sees Ladies 5s secure 2-1 home win

05 November 2016, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 5s 2 - 1 Buckingham Ladies 3s

We met in the changing rooms for a motivational team talk from Susan to get us in the mood. We knew this was going to be a tough match as results were even for the last 4 seasons.
We started the match with a lot of attacking play and were able to get the ball around our attacking D but weren't able to test the keeper with any shots.
Buckingham were dangerous on the break and with a lot of switching about on the forward line were able to confuse the Hawks defence. Evelyn was called upon a several times but was able to keep the ball out of the goal.
From a 16 Jane hit an excellent ball down the wing to Lotty who was able to run around the back and pass the ball to Blanche who was on the penalty spot to slot the ball in the goal.
Hawks now needed to stay calm and continue to play the calm attacking hockey from the start of the match. With some end to end play and both teams having shots time slowly ticked by. Buckingham managed to break and crossed the ball to a waiting player who managed to slip it past Evelyn.
At the half time talk there were lots of positives to talk about and a few places that needed tweaking.
Second half started with a similar feel to the first half. Both teams working hard and wanting to get the next goal to put themselves in the lead. The next goal was for Hawks, a strong hit from Buffy at half back made it to Sherene who was able to find herself 1:1 with the keeper. In Sherene style she was able to keep her nerve and lift it past the keeper.
The final minutes were tense for Hawks with Buckingham piling on the pressure to find another goal. The final whistle went and we got a well deserved win and important 3 points.
Susan and Jane were double teaming throughout the match to get the ball out of defence. With Phil and Sophie both working hard the ball was continuously won and cleared down the pitch.
Man of the match went to Sophie who had an incredible match even though out of position.
