After last weeks chastening 8-0 loss to the Oxford A team it was back to more familiar territory this week with a healthy 5-0 win against the Oxford B team.
After the slight delay to the start, as Oxford waited in vain for their Keeper to arrive, Hawks set about putting into practice the stuff they're Coached each weekend, and had been reminded of during the pre-match chat. Looking to take individual responsibility for their own game, defensive duties, and maintain positional discipline, Hawks duly started to move the ball over greater distances, and with more accuracy, and speed. Taking care of passes saw the Midfield start to impose themselves upon the opposition, whilst a high forward line started to create opportunities to score. All the time a tight defence saw off the occasional foray forward by Oxford.
Goals by Tiggy, Jade, and Olivia saw us go to half time 3-0 up.
More of the same was demanded at Half-time, and the second half continued in much the same vain as the first....lots of Hawks pressure finding quite a resolute Oxford defence. That said, Tiggy managed to bag another 2 to complete her hat-trick (hope you got your 'jug' Jonny!).
In all honesty Hawks could have scored more but for the excellent Oxford kicking back, who was promptly voted Man of the Match. I think the Girls now realise that it's more difficult than you realise to score in a very crowded, and congested, D. Lessons to be learned around not entering the D en-masse too early!
Lastly, thanks to Jonny Atkins for Umpiring, and also to Lara Middlemiss who was enjoying a brief breather on the sidelines when Oxford asked if she could play for them as one of their players had to leave, and was promptly voted Man of the Match by the Oxford Girls.
