Hawks Ladies 5s achieved a hard fought 1-0 win against Wallingford 3s. Hawks started well with some sharp passing around. Soon into the first half, Wallingford cranked up the pressure and had multiple chances in the D. Purdy put in a stellar performance and cleared many shots on goal from open play and the backs played well to defend two short corners. Hawks were struggling to break the press from hit outs but the midfielders and forwards did come back with some great attacking play. Unfortunately the chances created did not result in any goals for Hawks.Hawks started the second half with some well-sustained pressure. Hawks were linking up well in attack and were looking dangerous in the D again when Sherene went down with a nasty injury to the face. After the injury time-out, Hawks held their game and continued to drive forward in an end to end second half of the second half. Pip injected from a short to Caitlin who converted a beautiful, controlled lift into goal. Wallingford also kept up the pressure and missed a number of chances across the goal but Purdy was on form and cleared any direct shots. A bit of a battle to the end and possibly overall scrappier than we would like but Hawks came out on top!
Thanks to Charlie and Rodney for blowing their whistles for us.
Finally we wish Sherene all the best for a quick recovery back from her 'blow on the nose' - after all we need her for her excellent malteser bake!
