Falcons celebrate Rogan's last match with high five
15 October 2016, 15:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Falcons 5 - 2 Woking Pitts
Rogan Meadows years of playing at Oxford Hawks came to an end as Falcons fittingly played against old adversaries and long time drinking pals Woking Pitts the Elder. Rogan first played for the Hawks in the early sixties and has played almost every season since then. Rogan chose not to play this game but was in charge of the post match training!
The Falcons took time to settle in but despite dominating possession could have been behind as Woking caught them on the break but missed a guilt edged chance with the centre forward free in front of the goal. The Woking keeper made a sharp save from a deflected shot from the Bear, but the larger than life character soon gave Falcons the lead as he 'twatted' a short corner. Phil Dunnill added a second when his shot was turned in by the unfortunate keeper's stick.
In the second half Steve Griffiths added a third as he deflected a through ball by Russ Warner high into the net. Woking PTE deservedly pulled a goal back as Richard Wilsdon did his best the remedy the lack of cover in defence.
Peter Bennett and Russ Warner took the tally to five before Woking added a second near the end to complete the scoring and make way for Jan's Killer Chilli and copious jugs of beer to celebrate Rogan's last game. It was left for David Blomley to win MOM, the editor makes note that Blommers is only playing his 40th consecutive season at Hawks!
