Olton made the short journey down the M40 to face Oxford Hawks, with the away side featuring both former Hawks player Lucy Aldred and former GB star Sally Walton. Olton started strongly and Hawks keeper Mim Pritchard had to make a number of outstanding early saves to keep the scores level, but eventually the away side broke the deadlock with a well taken goal.
Some inspirational words at the break from coach Andy Clark resulted in Hawks coming out a completely different side, with Emily Taylor putting in an outstanding performance on her National League debut. However Hawks went another goal behind when Olton broke away quickly and took their chance with a clinical finish. Hawks had plenty of chances to get back into the game, with a number of penalty corners and good attacks. They thought they had pulled a goal back after a stunning cross from Becky Odlin found the diving stick of Catherine Reaney, but the umpire deemed the cross to have come off the back of Odlin's stick and the goal was disallowed. Hawks were not disheartened and continued to pressure the Olton defence but they couldn't find a way through, and were punished again seconds from time when the away side added a third. Thanks to Clive Jones for the photos.
