Hawks 2's made a familiar journey to Banbury for a repeat of the local clash from the previous 2 seasons. This would kick off Hawks' preseason matches for the 2016-17 season. It was a very even first quarter, with Hawks putting the Banbury D under some good pressure and earning a couple of short corners, however these early opportunities were not fruitful. Banbury eased their way back into the game with some promising counter attacks and positive pressure making the most of Hawks struggling to keep possession. Banbury were rewarded for their pressure to go in at half time 2 - 0 up.
Hawks were unable to improve on their first half form and were punished further for their lack of ball retention with Banbury scoring a further 3 goals without reply. Mary Douglas scored Hawks' first consolation with an unexpected reverse flick from the top of the D finding the net to make it 5-1. Banbury then completed their goals before Hawks' second consolation coming from a penalty stroke which was won and decisively claimed and finished by Emily Wilkins. The final score, 6-2 and plenty for Hawks to build on in their remaining preseason fixtures.
