Hawks started the match with a high intensity and great work on the left from Rosie, Harriet and Olivia led to an early short corner which captain Lizzie struck into the corner to give the home side a deserved lead.
Shortly after, Hawks doubled the lead when a great baseline run from Becca and some unselfish passing from Kath led to Lizzie getting her second of the game from short range.
Hawks continued to pile on the pressure and knowing that the keeper was normally an outfield player, chances were taking from some audacious angles with everyone keen to get on the scoresheet!
Just before half time, another short corner was passed wide right to Becca who swept in comfortably to send Hawks into half time 3-0 up!
A positive half time talk from Jacs and Lizzie geared everyone up for a positive second half with more goals!
Hawks showed why short corner practice is so important with another goal. This time the ball was passed left from Lizzie and Harriet swept in under the Wycombe keeper.
Despite having the share of possession, Hawks still had some defending to and some great organisation from the defence of Evelyn, Nicky and Lucy meant that Wycombe never really looked like ruining the clean sheet for Team D.
In the last 10 minutes, Hawks stepped up the pace which the away team struggled to match and great confidence from Rosie on the right saw her drive into the D unchallenged and smash the ball home to make it 5-0 and two goals from the defence!
With a few minutes to go, Hawks scored the best goal of the game when Katie cleared from the defending D to Kath. Quick passing from Kath to Lizzie and an unselfish ball across the D meant that Beth could tap the ball into the goal to finish a slick move and give Hawks a well deserved 6-0 victory.
Despite losing players near the end of the season, this performance and the victory against Aylesbury the previous week showed that 5th place Hawks can compete in this league and look forward to trying to improve their position next season!
