Ladies' 5s 2 - 0 Oxford Ladies 5s

A 10am start away at Brookes, v Oxford Ladies 5's, saw the game start with the early morning fog still to clear, not so for Hawks though who started the game brightly and enjoyed early possession and pressure.

With Susan & Becky mopping up the attacks that Oxford had, Zoe & Maddie started to control the Midfield, looking to use the space made through good leads from the forward line. Hawks enjoyed the balance of possession but lacked composure in, and around, the D with all too often the final pass going astray or shots going wide of the goal. For all the possession, and circle penetration Hawks didn't work the Oxford keeper nearly enough. That said, one fine attack led to a shot which was well finished by Kirsty. Hawks finished the half one up.

Wise words from Susan and Caroline saw Hawks come out determined to make the next 35 minutes count, and ideally convert pressure into goals. What few chances Oxford had were easily saved by Megan. Kirsty saw more and more of the ball, and made some excellent penetrating runs, and more often than not Hawks were on the attack. Sherene increasingly showed her experience up front and it was from one of these attacks that she scored with an excellent strike across the goal which went in at the far post.

Despite having more of the game in the second half Hawks failed to further turn possession into goals and, in all honesty, were a little guilty of wasting their circle penetrations.

So, a steady game, but one where improvement can still be made despite the win. A little more composure in the D would see Hawks scoring more goals.

Thanks must go to Daniel McErlain for time keeping and marshalling the rolling of the substitutes and MoM was Maddie Whitwell.
