Saturday’s fixture had a very ‘end of season’ feel to it, although the 4s were keen to avenge their defeat to MK earlier in the season. The Dons are the only team lower in the table to have defeated us, but they were a pale shadow of the team that won 2-1 at their Pagoda Stadium. It was a beautiful day once the early morning mist disappeared and Hawks put out a strong team, bolstered by Pablo in the middle dominated from the off. In truth, it was a very one-sided affair and although we had all the possession in the first half we only managed to score two goals, in part down to their keeper’s heroics. Pablo pounced on a rebound off the keeper’s pads from a short, while Jasper got on the scoresheet, with a deflected shot off the defender. We almost had a third, when another wild shot hit a defender high on the knee – or groin as he claimed – and the ball cannoned in. After much discussion, we graciously accepted a no goal and the game continued, with Gary M getting his normal (green) card for knocking the ball away – he looked grateful for the rest. Brett Morrison continued to cause havoc with his aerials and after a stern word from Torbs at half time, we upped the ante and pulled clear with three quick goals, courtesy of Torbs himself (x2) and Nathan, again off a rebound. Luke finished off the scoring, finishing a great run poorly, but he had the presence of mind to follow up to score. The birthday boy in goal was only troubled once from a rare MK foray , but was alert enough to make the save in the bottom corner. A stroll in the park, but this won’t be the case next week as we face a promotion-hungry Newbury.
