Ladies' 3s in convincing win against Sonning

30 January 2016

Ladies' 3s 3 - 1 Sonning Ladies 2s

Hawks Ladies 3s travelled to Sonning hoping to turn their recent strong performances against tough oppositions into 3 points.

Hawks started well with a high workrate from forwards Lizzie, Laura and Olivia which put the Sonning defence under continued pressure. 15 minutes in a short corner led to a strong strike from newly promoted forward Laura which the keeper duly saved. Unfortunately for Sonning, Laura pounced onto the clearance and rebounded the shot in on her reverse past the keeper and into the corner. 1-0 to Hawks!

Hawks continued to pile on the pressure with some great link up play from Katie, Gabs and Harriet in the middle. Short sharp passing as a unit meant that Hawks played some of their best hockey of the season. Another short corner this time led to young Gabs getting onto the scoresheet with a neat deflection which sent Hawks in at half time with a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw more of the same from Hawks with great passing, often started from the back from Becca, Mel and Nicky who kept the Sonning forwards running ragged.

Olivia then made a great lead to find herself one on one with the keeper. With great composure, instead of taking the early shot, she waited for the keeper to commit and went round her to slot in comfortably.

A last minute short corner for the home side which was cooly deflected in meant that Hawks didn't leave with the clean sheet they deserved but all in all it was a convincing victory for the visitors.
