We stole this fixture 0-1 earlier in the season and although we again won by a solitary goal on Saturday, the game wasn’t as close as the scoreline suggests. It was an odd match, particularly in the first half as both teams seemed under par – maybe due to a 10am start – and although there was plenty of endeavour, neither keeper was unduly troubled. Indeed, the most entertaining aspect of the first half was the running commentary between Ed B and one of the veterans in their team. However, in the second half we started to stretch the game and Ed, Nathan C and especially Laurie Cooke started to shine; Brett's aerials started to become prominent too. Three quick excellently goals came midway through the second half, courtesy of Ed, Nathan and Luke Piper, who manfully played through despite looking and feeling awful, especially as we only had 12 players due to the vagaries of availability higher up the club. Three nil up and coasting, we were then guilty of not playing to the whistle and that allowed colts' parent Will Trigg to get one back for Abingdon as the whole defence statued, before they scored a further consolation right on the final whistle. Laurie deservedly took MoM and the win cements our 4th position in the league with four games to go. Thanks to Dawsey and Jeff for blowing.
