Leighton Buzzard 1s are one of three teams pushing for promotion this year and we lost the reverse fixture 5-1 after conceeding 4 goals in the first 10 minutes. With another youthful side we welcomed Jack in goal and the Maclachlan brothers Sean and Toby to the ranks. Both sides tried to play hockey in what was an enjoyable game - Leighton Buzzard shaded the first half, particularly the last 20 minutes and were unlucky not to score when hitting the bar and Sean had to clear one out of the top corner. Brett was unlucky not to beat the keeper on his reverse from close range in what was probably our best chance. All square at the break and anyone's game. We came out and played much better in the second half and after they lost their skipper to a nasty cut their shape went a bit. Chris Maidlow capped a fine performance with a well taken goal and we were one up. Chances went begging at either end and Jack saved us on more than one occasion. Both Robbie and Ed went close as we tried to see out the game. As we sat back in the last 5 minutes the pressure told and we conceeded. 1-1 was probably a fair reflection of the game, although always disappointing to concede so late on. A real good team performance and we are all working really hard for each other. MOM goes to Robbie whose workrate was fantastic and he created chances throughout the game.
Many thanks to Lisa and Dave for umpiring. It was much appreciated.
