Ladies' 1s in the gloom over Gloucester
20 February 2016, 12:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 1s 1 - 4 Gloucester City Ladies 1s
Oxford Hawks Ladies' 1s hosted Gloucester City at Banbury Road North in this mid-table clash, but came out on the losing side after a game of two very different halves. Hawks had the better of the first half, scoring after only five minutes with a perfectly executed Lucy Millington penalty corner strike. They continued to string together some brilliant passing moves, but were unable to convert their possession into further goals, and went into the break with just the one goal advantage.
In the second half tides were turned, and Gloucester pressed the Hawks defence very hard, forcing repeated turnover. After about ten minutes they levelled with good play from former player Maisie Robertson, who drove down the right and crossed to her centre forward for an easy tap in. Despite some brilliant defending from player of the match Caro Harris, Gloucester extended their lead only minutes later, and added two quick fire goals not long after. Hawks were shaken by the sudden turnaround in the game but to their credit settled and played some lovely hockey in the last quarter, but it was too little too late as Gloucester took the points.
