Draw for men's 3's against Sonning 1's

13 February 2016, 14:30, Banbury Road North (Top)

Men's 3s 1 - 1 Sonning Men's 1s

Saturday saw the 3s face a well drilled, athletic Sonning side, which ended in a well earned draw continuing a great run of performances going into the game. With limited availability throughout the club and in the draining weather, stamina was always going to be a challenge.

Although Sonning were sitting high in the table, we felt as though a win was within our grasp considering how well the team had been playing going into the game. While another strong team performance followed, we found it hard to break a resilient Sonning defence. The only goal from a host of chances came from Cameron early in the first half; an inch perfect cross on the break allowing Cameron to find the back of the net. The rest of the half saw some great saves from MOM Boggsy and hard fought, good passing hockey from both teams. Late in the half, a shot on goal seemed to find a Sonning foot on the goal line but to some disbelief, no flick was awarded resulting in the 3's going in to halftime 1-0.

The 3s then battled the bitter cold and rain to, unfortunately, let a Sonning goal in mid way into the second half from a short corner. Both teams were then fairly equal throughout the rest of the second half. The worsening weather took its toll on the squad, the game finishing in a Sonning corner after Danish was seemed to play the ball off the back of the pitch somewhat unfairly we felt. With heart in mouths, Sonning proceeded with the short corner which thankfully was cleared to leave the two teams each taking a point from the game. Not a bad result for the 3's given our league position. The team continue to work hard to pull themselves out of the relegation fight at the bottom of the table.
