The men's 2s faced Winchester this week, keen to put in a better display than the away fixture. With player coach Blackburn and captain Ellis on the sidelines needing a nose job and some man up pills respectively, the men in maroon were confident of putting in a better performance welcoming Phillips and Crowley back into the fold.
the game started balanced, with both teams enjoying their fair share of possession but it was Hawks who took he lead. After come good forward work Hawks got their first corner and the prolific man of the match Andrews duly dispatched. Minutes later after another excellent free flowing move it was 2, this time Andrews sticking one high into the roof. The rest of the half played out with both teaMs having their chances, the best falling to Crowley who did everything but find the backboard after rounding the keeper.
2-0 but Winchester far from out of it. And it was them who struck next. A mix up in Hawks defence led to a corner, which was converted on the rebound after the initial effort was saved. With the game balanced the next goal would surely be crucial, and after further excellent work from the frontline another Hawks corner was awarded and Andrews once again expertly dispatched it.
with 3 minutes left, Winchester won their 4th corner and as they did before converted on the rebound. This set up a nervousness final couple of minutes and unfortunately for the 2s did not end well. With a questionable corner bring given against them, Winchester converted again on the rebound, and with that the final whistle was blown.
Gutting for the 2s but there were massive positives in the performance and still plenty of points on offer. Although currently lying bottom of the table on goal difference, 6 points over the next couple of weeks could move them up 4 places.
