Well it was a bit of a dreary afternoon, but spirits were high. With 20 players available the captain had a tough choice who to ask not to play, so she included herself in players to drop. With 16 picked off she went to the gym for a good workout finishing at 3.30 to only get a call from a player saying they couldn't come, so a quick change of kit and off to the pitch (probably not the best move after a good workout). This week we welcomed another young player Issy Gibson.

We started off well with A&C being a little stronger but the defence worked really hard to keep the ball away from the goalie and Purdy making some great saves. Unfortunately with a little confusion between who should go for the ball between defence and GK meant A&C were lucky enough for one to dribble in leaving us 1-0 down.

Now with their spirits raised they fought hard and the rain followed suit and came down even harder. With the wind going against us. A&C had some lovely accurate long passes from their defence straight up to their forwards allowing them to go 2-0 up. We fought hard back with Maddy and Issy G driving hard down the right side, Maddy fought hard in the D and the ball appeared to dribble over the line but an A&C defender hit it away before the umpire could see. Shortly after a penalty flick was awarded to us and Linda stepped to the spot. Unfortunately for us their GK was quick on her feet and saved it.

Later Dette managed to get hold of the ball and on her own drove it down the pitch ahead of their defenders, unfortunately the ball was going just that fraction faster than Dette and she couldn't quite control it into the goal falling over on the back line but a valiant solo effort. Our half time talk from our newly appointed coach Josh focussed on us holding our shape and using both sides of the pitch.

For the second half the wind was with us, But the rain was even heavier, after an hour in the gym it was just too much for our captain - a woman not quite in her physical peak. But Bella had to shoot off before the end forcing her back on the pitch. We still didn't master holding our shape and the game finished with another goal for A&C ending 3-0. Congratulations to Issy Gibson on getting MOM on her debut ladies game with the other youngster getting votes. Thank you to Drew and Alan for umpiring in such miserable weather and Jan Roche for much needed hot teas after the game. And a big thank you for Josh for coaching and we look forward to Tuesday for our much needed lesson in how to hold our shape!

Thanks also to James Hathaway for taking photos in such difficult conditions.
