On a baltic Saturday morning in Banbury, Hawks Ladies 2s started the game positively and were immediately in the Banbury D after some great work from Laura Scragg and Rowena Hearn. However Banbury responded well and started to put pressure on the Hawks defence. They were awarded a penalty corner and a Banbury forward scored after flicking the ball into the left hand corner. Hawks continued to put pressure on the Banbury defence but were unable to convert any chances.
It was 1-0 to Banbury at half time. With wisdom on the structure and press from Andy Clark and Lisa Scragg, the 2s were confident going into the 2nd half. This confidence paid off when Jane picked up the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and played a great pass to Emily Wilkins in the D, who calmly slotted the ball on her reverse into the left hand corner of the goal.
Banbury upped their game after Hawks' equaliser and began to put the 2s under pressure all over the pitch. Man of the match for the 2nd week in a row, Linda Billington made some great saves. But Banbury scored a further 4 goals, converting a couple of short corners and scoring from open play as well.
Hawks continued to work hard until the final whistle but were unable to convert any more chances. The Ladies 2s look forward to playing Oxford on the 6th February.
