Staines 3s are having a tough time this season, rooted to the bottom of the table having won only one game this season (and had those points deducted). It’s not always easy playing these games yet Hawks 4s rose to the challenge and in some welcome bright sunlight put on a terrific performance to win 6-0. Getting to the game was possibly one of the biggest challenges as many of us got stuck on the M40 near Wycombe, which meant us rocking up just 15 minutes before the start of the game. A truncated warm up appeared to work as straight from the off Hawks advanced up the pitch with a nice move for Rob Manson to calmly slot home – I’m not sure the opposition had even touched the ball at this point. It was great to have Rob back, even if it was for just one game, before he flies off again defending our country. Soon after, Chris Maidlow was on hand to rifle home a stroke after a neat switch move at a short corner was stopped on the line by a defender’s stick. Atkins in goal was a mere bystander, while Jules Easterbrook revelled in his sweeper’s role and hopefully was impressed with the quality passing play of the 4s, dictated by Gary and skipper Dave. Jules and Brett mopped up everything in front of them and were able to feed the youth of Laurie, Robbie and Ed to forage forward. At the back, Ollie gets better and better. Only 2-0 at half time, we had to be on our guard still, but these concerns were put to rest as the speed of Chris and Rob put them to the sword, with Chris gaining his first ever league hat-trick, well timed with an admirer of the sidelines. Jasper was allowed in on the act too and he was provided a well worked goal on a plate. A bit of defensive action at the back at the end, with Staines being awarded a series of short corners, but we coped with them well to achieve the clean sheet. A pleasing display and well umpired by the appointed two.
