13 Hawks travelled round the m25 to face an in form Holcombe. With their 1st team not back in action until next week, Holcombe had the rare luxury as a 2nd XI of selecting a full squad.
With a different look back 4 due to unavailability and Captain Ellis being called up to the 1s, Hawks men's 2s started brightly, and within 4 minutes won their first corner after some excellent work from Bennett. Unfortunately Andrews, fresh back from his 3 weeks on the powder, was unable to convert with the Holcombe keeper making a good double save. From there, the game was finely balanced until Holcombe broke down the right hand side, with the ball eventually finding an unmarked player at the top of the circle, who topped it into the net evading the hawks sticks and Hargreaves in goal.
5 minutes later, this is where this reporters story finishes. With the ball being smashed into the hawks circle, it became evident Chilvers had spent too much time being coached by Chilv Senior in his youth, mistrapping it into the face of player coach and stand in captain Blackburn. Game over for him and a trip to the local A&E in kent. Hawks did have the ball in the net 5 minutes later but unfortunately the umpire blew a split second too early to aware a corner.
Secondary source reports:
- Hawks ran out of legs
- Turned the ball over cheaply that cost a goal or 2
- Lawson had a very good game.
